The Island Media Arts Co-op welcomes Amanda Dawn Christie as this summer’s artist in residence from August 1 to 28. She will be creating a new 16mm film installation that will be exhibited at Art in the Open on August 27. Amanda will give a free DIY filmmaking workshop August 13 and 14.
During her residency, Amanda Dawn Christie will be working on a new 16mm film installation called Where Ocean Meets Air. This work is an installation reflecting on reflection. To create this new work during her time in Charlottetown, she will be shooting and hand processing black and white 16mm film out at the shorelines, and then hand processing that footage in the darkroom at Holland College. She will then work with salt water from the ocean to intervene organically on the film’s surface to create textures and distortions. Once the film footage has been shot, processed, and edited, the final installation will involve two film projectors each equipped with loop boxes, projecting the film onto treated surfaces.
This residency is made possible with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, as well as through partnerships with Holland College and Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre.
